Happy Transfiguration Sunday!

Transfiguration of our Lord. . .Discovering Christ’s community through building relationships

Today is Transfiguration Sunday for 2025. The account of Transfiguration Sunday recounts a miraculous event experienced by Peter, James, and John while they were on the mountain with Jesus, where they witnessed his transformation before their eyes.

The Transfiguration
Luke 9:28-36

28About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 29As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. 33As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

34While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.” 36 When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.

Transfiguration of our Lord ! ! !

Transfiguration is commemorated on the final Sunday of the Epiphany season. According to the 3-Year Lectionary, Transfiguration will occur on March 2, 2025, just three days prior to Ash Wednesday and the commencement of Lent. The Christian calendar is shifted per year to reflect more Sundays in the Epiphany season of the year that a Lent is later in the calendar year. That same shift also is passed on down to the Pentecost season, to reflect the same less/more Sundays to fit in the Lent season appropriately into our calendar year. And now a prayer:
Transfiguration Sunday Prayer: O Spirit of Life, illuminate our path repeatedly so that we may fulfill the blessing you envision for us.

Amen

I am making available a non-denominational prayer and a Catholic service. The people involved go out of their way to bring these tools to you, and a donation would be appreciated.
