Origination: National Chocolate Covered Nut Day celebrates the origin of chocolate and nuts. People celebrate every day with chocolate covered nuts, and special occasions like anniversaries, birthdays and a great day, to go alongside. The history of chocolate and its creation from the cocoa bean can be traced from the Xocolatl-loving Olmec, Maya and Aztecs of Mexico dating back to the era of between 1900 BC to 1500 BC. The Maya considered chocolate to be food of the gods, with the cacao tree being held to be sacred. They also buried dignitaries with bowls of chocolate. The history of nuts have been part of human diets since ancient times, serving as food, medicine, and symbols of wealth. The oldest nut, walnut dates back over 5,000 years ago. In American history, pecans are native, and George Washington Carver popularized peanuts. In modern times, nuts became known for their health benefits. They have also been used for various medicinal purposes.

The 20^th Century: The inaugural chocolate-covered peanut confection was Goobers, which made its debut in 1925. The term “Goober” was widely used as slang for peanuts. Among the more prominent chocolate-covered nuts is the M&M. These chocolate-coated peanuts and chocolate-covered almonds have gained considerable popularity. The peanut M&M was launched in 1954, initially in a tan hue until 1960, when red, yellow, and green colors were incorporated into the production line.

Nutritious Possibilities: Both chocolate and nuts can offer health benefits. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants, while nuts are a source of essential fatty acids and linolenic acids. Predominantly, the fats found in nuts are unsaturated, particularly monounsaturated fats. Additionally, nuts supply arginine, which may enhance the flexibility of arterial walls and reduce the risk of blockages due to blood clots.
