Happy Save the Eagles Day!

Yesterday was Save the Eagles Day in 2025, a day serving as a reminder of the magnificent representative of freedom in America that glide gracefully through the skies. . .

Happy Save the Eagles Day ! !

A Brief History:
A Legacy: The magnificent larger birds that glide through the skies, regardless of their population status, whether thriving or at risk. Thanks to the efforts of researchers and community members, the bald eagle was delisted from the endangered species list in June 2007. However, threats such as poaching, pesticide use, and other hazards persist, endangering eagle populations.

Protection: Protection to all the particular bald eagles and to enhance awareness regarding the species. However, it has since evolved to include all eagle species. Globally, there are around 60 different species of eagles, with the majority residing in Eurasia and Africa. In contrast, North, Central, and South America, along with Australia, host only about 14 species. Notably, Hawaii is devoid of any eagle populations. In North America, the bald eagle and the golden eagle are the most prevalent species.

Majestic: Eagles are formidable raptors known for their strength and hunting prowess. Their exceptional vision, combined with robust musculature, sharp talons, and a strong beak, equips them well for capturing prey. Additionally, eagles are monogamous, forming lifelong mating bonds.

More About Dedication of the Day:  In 2015, Save the Eagles Day was established in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, as a response to the need to protect a pair of nesting bald eagles in the area. In late 2014, Skymark Development Corp from Paramus presented a study indicating that a nearby landfill posed potential health hazards to the eagles. The nesting pair, affectionately named Alice and Al, had been residing along Overpeck Creek since at least 2011. When the developer suggested a plan that involved the removal of the tree housing the eagles’ nest, the local community, along with the Bergen County Audubon Society, came together to create Save the Eagles Day on January 10, 2015.

An Eagle Sanctuary: An agreement was ultimately reached to designate a portion of the land as an eagle park. Alice and Al continued to reside in Ridgefield Park, soaring above the local inhabitants. Further information can be found regarding the environmental achievements of the region, as well as details about Alice and Al.

A Few Facts:

I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .

About the Eagle:
Eagles do not represent a natural taxonomic group; rather, the term encompasses various species of birds of prey that are sufficiently large to hunt significant vertebrates, typically measuring around 50 centimeters or more in length. Notable examples include the Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, Harpy Eagle, and Philippine Eagle. These birds are recognized as some of the fastest avian species, capable of soaring to altitudes of 15,000 feet. They generally fly at an average speed of 50 miles per hour, but can accelerate to 100 miles per hour during a dive to capture prey. I observed these magnificent creatures during a tour at NASA in March 1997, where the tour guide mentioned that they would soon be migrating north to Minnesota for the summer season.

The Present:
The pledge and the flag still flies high, to the day. They stand for the freedom it bears, and plenty of people are still willing to defend the pledge and the flag to today. Let’s keep the Bill of Rights and the Constitution in mind every time recant the Pledge of Allegiance and every time we see the flag!

The Future:
We will NEVER, ever bend when it comes to freedom! We will not back down, we won’t bend! God Bless the U.S.A.!
