A Brief History:
Origination: SKYWARN® Recognition Day day is a day that is dedicated to recognizing the volunteers who remain vigilant when the winds intensify or the skies become ominous. Their dedication enhances community safety by relaying critical warnings to the National Weather Service. SKYWARN® Recognition Day celebrates the invaluable contributions of public service volunteers who deliver crucial weather updates in real-time.

Ametuer Radio & the Implementation of SKYWARN®:  The observance acknowledges the essential role that Amateur Radio operators play in supporting the National Weather Service’s severe weather warning efforts. Additionally, it enhances the relationship between Amateur Radio operators and the local National Weather Service. SKYWARN® spotters undergo training through various methods and utilize amateur radio for communication. As integral members of their communities, they serve as essential resources at both local and national levels.

The Merits of THE SKYWARN® System: Across the nation, approximately 290,000 SKYWARN® weather spotters dedicate their time to volunteer efforts. They play a crucial role in identifying severe weather conditions that may pose risks to life and property. These spotters alert the National Weather Service to the dangers associated with thunderstorms, tornadoes, and floods. Once the system is activated, an Emergency Broadcast bulletin is carried out to the degree needed in order to save lives, be it a radio or television broadcast of the bulletin, or a cellular phone activation, or hundreds of other ways and forms of  communication–in order to carry out the purpose of saving lives, injury and minimizing damage.

A celebration: A day to celebrate the honor of the people who bring early warning for weather disaster, and make SKYWARN® a system that works!

Celebrated: The first Saturday of December every year!

A Few Facts:
I am sharing a few facts, and more, some trivia, some not trivial. . .

Here is more information regarding the SKYWARN® system from the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma:wThe Present:
I honor the people who assist in making modern day life less disastrous, by granting the knowledge to make a correct decision with the emergence of disastrous storm systems. The current system needs a complete overhaul. I have been monitoring weather systems for over45 years, and the current administration made several erroneous and dangerous errors over the past year.

I am praying that the new administration can assist in national departments to focus on everyday weather in order to be able to make better decisions on a daily basis, as opposed to a constant focus on climate change, which is real and needs attention, but emergency weather needs their departments to do the work they have grown accustomed to. . .to alert in the outbreak of an emergency!
