National POW MIA Recognition Day ! ! !
…A lot of times we lose our disposition in regular daily matters, but this country and the flag it stands behind, is still the most free land in the world. It is a nice day to celebrate the freedom we enjoy everyday with a tributary to that served. Where else in the world do we have that freedom to express our own opinions, and get away with having those thoughts, but in the U.S.A.–and that freedom is only possible through our Veterans, and anyone who has ever been a POW or MIA is most especially honored!

A Brief History:
Thank You: A special day to honor the American soldiers, sailors, marines, or any other department who have been either of POW/MIA. The day serves as a reminder to reflect on the commitment and sacrifices made by military personnel who are captive or unaccounted for due to their service. It is customary for Americans to display POW/MIA flags as a gesture of remembrance and respect. The Legion remains devoted to achieving a complete accounting of all U. S. service members from every conflict who are either prisoners or missing in action. This commitment includes advocating for the return of living POWs, repatriating fallen soldiers’ remains from overseas, or providing conclusive evidence when these outcomes are not attainable, as outlined in Resolution 22 from the 99th National Convention. I am absolutely flabbergasted to say “thank you”!

Origination: National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed annually on the third Friday of September. This day is dedicated to honoring the dedication and sacrifices of the nation’s prisoners of war and those who remain missing in action, along with their families. On this occasion, Americans are encouraged to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel who are either imprisoned or unaccounted for due to their service. It is also customary for individuals and businesses to display POW/MIA flags. The Legion is steadfast in its mission to ensure a complete accounting of all U.S. servicemembers from every conflict who are either held captive or classified as missing in action. In line with this mission, it advocates for the return of living POWs, the repatriation of the remains of fallen soldiers from overseas conflict zones, or the establishment of conclusive evidence indicating that neither outcome is feasible, as outlined in Resolution 22 from the 99th National Convention.
Traditions: Taking a hat off for the many Americans who over the years have served our Armed Forces, especially a POW/MIA, shape or form and the displaying multiple flags.
Observed: The establishment of POW/MIA Recognition Day in 1979 was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the families of service members who went missing during the Vietnam War. This day serves as a solemn reminder of our nation’s obligation to honor the sacrifices of those who have served and to strive diligently to account for those who have not yet returned.
