A Brief History:
Origination: Mayflower Day is a day dedicated to celebrate the boat ride on the Mayflower ship from Great Britain that those original set of people who instilled the beginning of the United States of America. The pilgrims were a group of men, women and children that set sail for a 66 day trip across the Atlantic in search of religious freedom.
Evolution: The Mayflower departure from Plymouth, England on September 16, 1620. The journey to America proved to be perilous for both the passengers and crew, who hailed from various backgrounds in England and Leiden, Holland. The Mayflower sailed just over 3 months, with a landing of the Pilgrim Fathers at Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Number of Days Matches Bible Books: Ironically, there is exactly one day for each book of the Bible, at 66 books. Do you feel that the pilgrims read one book a day?
Importance: Our forefathers were the ones who struggled for our country and sacrificed their lives, in order to establish a country so free as the United States of America. The flag was designed to represent that freedom, and we need to remember those who died for the country.
Massachusetts is Not Virginia: The colonists aimed to reach Virginia; however, after enduring 66 days at sea, they were diverted by storms and winds. Upon sighting what is now known as Cape Cod, the Mayflower’s crew planned to investigate the Hudson River’s mouth. Nevertheless, persistent rough seas forced them to abandon this plan and remain at Cape Cod. In the following weeks, the Pilgrims conducted explorations of Cape Cod and ultimately chose Plymouth as the site for their settlement.

The quarter of a millennium celebration is only nearly three and a half more years from now! With unity and a Higher Power, there is hope. . .
The Future:
We need to preserve the foundation of the United States. Without a solid foundation, our country is doomed to exist with the freedoms we enjoy. Don’t take anything for granted. Love our children! We will NEVER, ever forget the freedom for which the flag and the Statue of Liberty stands for!
