Excerpt #1:
“Truffle,” Nessa murmured, rousing a bit but not opening her eyes. “Good boy.”

Her family’s chocolate brown standard poodle was snuggled against her back, breathing steadily in her ear, one paw resting on her hip. She should probably get up and get ready for school, but she was so warm and cozy under the covers… 

Behind her, Truffle stirred. 

Wait a minute. 

“I don’t have any truffles,” said a sleepy male voice behind her. “I could make mocha coffee, though.”

Someone kissed her ear, and that definitely wasn’t a poodle tongue.

Excerpt #2:
“I think we’ve met,” he said with a small smile, holding out his hand. “I’m Matt Draper.”

Nonplussed, Nessa looked up at his face, and he did seem vaguely familiar. More than vaguely, in fact, but put on the spot like this, she couldn’t think where she might know him from. Glasses with dark frames, sandy blond hair neatly brushed back from his face, styled nicely. A shade of blue in his minister’s stole highlighted striking blue eyes. She’d been to a lot of weddings and met a lot of ministers in the past two years, but…

“Oh, I’m sorry!” Emily exclaimed. “Reverend Draper, this is Nessa Martini, from Wedding Protectors.”

And then it hit her.

OMG. Oh, no. Not possible.

“Actually, I’m pretty sure we had coffee together once,” he went on, his smile broadening, the all-too-familiar dimples appearing.

Excerpt #3:
His kiss began as gentle and tender, and she felt appreciated, almost as if he were honoring her for being who she was. Returning it, she felt completely present in the moment: tasting his mouth, feeling his rough cheek against her skin, inhaling the scent of his skin. 

She wanted to stay like this forever but suddenly, their desire for each other–never far below the surface–ignited. His breathing changed, becoming somehow more urgent, and she moved even closer to him, the full length of their bodies pressed together. In response, his palms slid down her back, cupping her and pulling her in, and she felt how hard he was. 

“Are we alone?” she gasped. “Is everyone..?”

His expression was dazed, like someone waking from deep sleep, but then her words registered and he strode quickly to the door. The lock clicked and the overhead lights went out, leaving the office lit dimly by the streetlights outside. 

The glow was enough to find her.

Wedding Protectors are often faced with a multitude of disastrous situations and they are expected to be on top of every single thing. They are very, very good at their jobs but sometimes, things are completely out of their control and we soon find out how our youngest protector handles herself in sketchy situations. This story, however is about more than weddings. It is about perception and yes, judgment.
