The History:
Origination: It’s believed that sun-protective eyewear originated as far back as 2,000 years ago. But the history of sunglasses is a bit of a mystery–we don’t know precisely when the first pair of sunglasses was created. Sunglasses have been a trendy fashion accessory since the 1930s, particularly at the beach. Originally created in 1936 by Bausch & Lomb for the U.S. military, this style became widely popular in the 1940s.

What Exactly a Pair of Sunglasses Are: Sunglasses, commonly referred to as shades, serve as protective eyewear against bright sunlight and high-energy visible light. They can also act as a visual aid, with lenses that are colored, polarized, or darkened. This style of eyewear gained popularity in the early 20th century.

Benefits of Keeping Sunlight to a Minimum: Sunlight, specifically natural light originating from the sun’s rays, is said to be crucial for eye health, provided that excessive exposure is prevented. The sun’s rays aid in the production of Vitamin D in the body, which is vital in delaying the aging process and enhancing vision. So wearing sunglasses gets you to a happy medium. . .getting the exposure, but not the overexposure, when it comes to the eyes.

Celebrated: The holiday is celebrated every year on June 27th.
