Bada Bing Pink Begonia

Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let the is year shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Bada Bing Pink Begonia.

The Bada Bing Pink Begonia, or the Begonia x Semperflorens is a hybrid annual that features dainty pink orchid-like flowers with yellow throats and rose edges at the ends of the stems from mid-spring, summer and into mid-fall. Its attractive, succulent, heart-shaped leaves remain green in color, with distinctive red edges throughout the growing season. This is a high maintenance plant that will require regular care and upkeep, and usually looks its best without pruning, although it will tolerate pruning. Deer don’t particularly care for this plant and will usually leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. Gardeners should be aware of the following characteristics that may warrant special consideration for insects and disease. Bada Bing Pink Begonias are recommended for mass planting, border edging, general garden use, container planting and hanging baskets. When fully grown, Bada Bing Pink Begonia will be roughly 10 inches tall and 8 inches wide. Aim for a spacing of around 6 inches between each plants when growing in masses or as a bedding plant. Its leaves usually stay dense and low to the ground. This plant is not a true annual, but in our environment, if left outside over the winter, it will behave like one and will need to be replaced the following year. Gardeners should therefore be aware that it will function differently than it would in its natural environment. It is best to keep the Bada Bing Pink Begonia away from warm, dry areas, and full Sun to moderate shade is ideal for this plant’s growth.
