Purple Gromwell (with a Dianto in Background)
Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let 2024 shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Purple Gromwell.
The Purple Gromwell, or the Lithospermum Purpurocaeruleum of the Boraginaceae family, is a is a flowering plant with a family name in Latin signifying “purple and blue”, denoting the color transformation of the flowers during blooming. This plant, a short-lived perennial, features fuzzy leaves and woody creeping stems. Its propagation occurs through both seeds and stem rooting. Typically thriving in woodland regions with limestone-rich soil, Purple Gromwell is originally found in a few locations in Wales and South West England…

- Height : 6 – 10″ (15 – 91cm)
- Width : 24 – 30″ (60 – 77cm)
- Exposure : Full sun, but can also tolerate partial shade.
The Dianto (Dianthus barbatus) is pictured in the background. It is not the focus of todays post. We will come back to a focused photo at a later date.
