The Beginning Years: It is believed that the history of New Mexico, based on archaeological evidence that varying cultures of humans occupied the area of New Mexico for multiple millennia through artifacts, architecture, and the assets of some written records. Earlier people migrated from northern areas of southward through North America after leaving Siberia via the original Bering Land Bridge. The first written records of the region were through 16th century Spanish conquistadors, who encountered Native American Pueblos. After those days, the Athabaskans-Apachean occupied in unison with those tribes after that, and then the Spanish Empire occupied for hundreds of years before they lost the land by becoming part of Chihuahua, Mexico. The Mexican–American War happened by the year 1846, and then the United States in acquired the lands on New Mexico through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848) in the year 1848.
More History: The state of New Mexico went through the “Gilded Age” in the 1850’s, with a romantic Catholic age aspired by the Vatican appointed Jean-Baptiste Lamy. In 1881 the legend Billy the Kid was shot and killed in New Mexico. The railroads went through in the 1870’s, and the area of New Mexico grew very rapidly from the 1880’s to the 1910’s. By the year 1912, statehood for New Mexico was achieved, and being one of the newer states in the United States, there is not a long list of major events. But by the year 1945, the first atomic bomb is detonated in New Mexico. Then in 1947, a UFO supposedly crashed landing near the Roswell area.
Climate of New Mexico: New Mexico’s climate consists of a mild, arid to semiarid, continental climate that is characterized by light precipitation totals, abundant sunshine, low relative humidity, and relatively large annual and daytime to nighttime temperature range. The highest mountains have climate characteristics known to be common to the Rocky Mountain region. from 10°F to 90°F and is rarely below −4°F or above 101°F. New Mexico’s average annual temperature is in the mid 50°s F, with extremes ranging from a near 120°F on a hotter summer daytime reading, to near −50°F on a colder nighttime winter reading.
The Great Location of New Mexico: New Mexico is an expansive, mildly sparse in population, southwestern dessert U.S. state that is located at the southern beginning of the Rocky Mountains that goes deep into the interior of Canada. New Mexico is between Colorado to the north, Oklahoma to the east, Texas to the east and south, the country of Mexico to the south, and Arizona to the west. The only four-corners conjunction of states in the United States is located at the northwest corner of the state of New Mexico, joining the state with Colorado, Utah, and Arizona.
