The Blazing Star
Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let 2025 shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the The Blazing Star.
The Blazing Star, or the Liatris Spicata (Asteraceae family), have tall, spike-like purple flowers that bloom in late summer to fall. They are admired for their vertical flower spikes and grassy leaves. Liatris spicata grows in moist meadows, while Liatris punctata is found in the Great Plains and is more drought-tolerant. Both thrive in full sun and well-drained soils. They attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. Plant them in spring or fall, water regularly in the first year, deadhead spent blooms, and cut back foliage after frost…

- Height : 2 to 6′ (60 – 183 cm)
- Width : 1 – 2′ (30 – 61 cm)
- Exposure : Can tolerate partial shade: full Sun for optimal growth and blooming
