A Brief History:
Origination: The origin of Hanukkah ( or Chanukah), also referred to as Hanukkah and recognized as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish celebration that honors the re-dedication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem during the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century BCE. The holiday, known in Hebrew as ืึฒื ึปืึธึผื (pronounced [ฯanuหka] in Modern Hebrew), is celebrated over eight consecutive nights and days.
More About Hanukkah: Hanukkah is considered to be of lesser religious importance compared to other Jewish festivals. The menorah features nine candles, with the central candle known as the shamus, or servant. This shamus is responsible for lighting the eight additional candles associated with Hanukkah.
Hanukkah Candles The candles of Hanukkah are intended solely for enjoyment and should not be utilized for any practical or functional purposes. The presence of the shamus ensures that the Hanukkah candles are not inadvertently employed to ignite a fire in the fireplace or for any other practical use.
Gift Giving: Traditionally, gift-giving does not form a part of the Hanukkah celebration. A popular activity during this holiday is playing dreidel, which is a gambling game. Additionally, the consumption of fried foods is customary during Hanukkah, symbolizing the oil that was used to illuminate the lamps.

Celebrated: Hanukkah is celebrated annually according to the Hebrew calendar, it commences on the 25th of Kislev, which can fall between late November and late December in the Gregorian calendar.
