Pink Narrowleaf Angelon Snapdragon
Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let the is year shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Pink Narrowleaf Angelon Snapdragon.
The Pink Narrowleaf Angelon Snapdragon (Summer Snapdragon), or the [Angelonia Angustifolia Benth in the Plantaginaceae family, is a flowering plant that adds color to gardens. The Pink Narrowleaf Angelon Snapdragon is native to voth Mexico and the West Indies, featuring a variety of colors, including light pink (featured here), blue, white, and deep mauve. The flowers resemble small snapdragons, and present a scent of slight grape soda, and bloom continuously from later spring all the way to the first frosts.
The Pink Narrowleaf Angelon Snapdragon is heat-tolerant and attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. These plants typically reach heights of 12 to 24 inches and spread 12 to 18 inches wide, depending on the variety. They prefer moist, well-drained soil, but can withstand brief dry spells, and can be started indoors in cooler zones. Seeds usually germinate in 20 days or so, but can take as much as two months. The Pink Narrowleaf Angelon Snapdragon can be rejuvenated by cutting them back by half and fertilizing in mid-summer. The flowers are self-cleaning, and need little or no deadheading, and very greatly not known to be toxic to pets or people, however they are not meant to be eaten.
