Which Western State was AZ:
The Beginning Years: The history of Arizona encompasses the periods of the Paleo-Indian, Archaic, Post-Archaic, Spanish, Mexican, and American periods. Several thousand years ago, Paleo-Indians settled in what is now Arizona. A few thousand years ago, the Ancestral Puebloan, the Hohokam, the Mogollon and the Sinagua cultures were inhabiting the state of Arizona. Europeans began entering the great state with the explorer Marcos de Niza, a Franciscan, entering the area in the year 1539. Coronado’s expedition entered the area in 1540–1542 during its search for Cíbola. The State of Arizona was originally part of Spanish and Mexican territories, with the area annexed to the United States with some areas as part of the Gadsden Purchase, with some of those and more areas becoming the first Arizona territory in the year 1848. All areas becoming the finalized territory by the year 1863m and Arizona officially became an official state in the year of 1912.
More History: The State of Arizona had some history with large-scale mining beginning ion the year 1858. Arizona entered into the state of territory officially as a Confederate state, and proceeded to it’s infamous “wild west” days, including the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, happening in the year 1881, and also with Geronimo, and a surrender in the year 1886. Continual outbreak with Spanish-Mexican individuals happened throughout the period of late 1800’s and first decades of 1900’s. 726.4 feet high/1,244 feet long Hoover Dam was constructed between 1930 and 1936, and is located on the Colorado River in Black Canyon, on the Arizona-Nevada border. I have been to theis site, and it is astonishingly beautiful
Hoover Dam is the highest concrete arch-gravity dam in the United States. It stores water that irrigates 2 million acres in Arizona and Southern California. The dam also impounds Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States by volume when full.
Hoover Dam is located about 35 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s also about 40 miles from the heart of Las Vegas, 95 miles from the Grand Canyon West, and 240 miles from Grand Canyon National Park.
Climate of Arizona: Arizona‘s climate consists an average of 300+ days year-round with most of the state having sunshine on any given day–at every location in the state (not at the same time). Arizona has one of three micro-climates: with one half being semiarid, one-third being arid, and the remainder being more humid. The Basin and Range region has the arid and semiarid subtropical climate, which attracts the most winter visitors and also new residents. Arizona’s climate also varies widely due to the difference in altitudes. Southern Arizona, including Phoenix and Tucson, present very hot summers and mild winters. Cooler summertime temperatures exist in the Chiricahua Mountains in the southeast corner of the state. Cumulatively, Arizona is markedly the eight hottest state in the United States, coexisting with a mean average of 62.9 °F. Mean temperatures in July daytime average near 107°F, and being as hot as in the 120°’s, with winter nighttime averages in the 50°’s, and as low as in the 46°F in December and January.
The Great Location of Arizona: Arizona is the sixth largest state in the country in terms of area and the newest lower-48 state in the United States. Arizona is an expansive, growingly populated southwestern U.S. state, is best known for the 10,000+ year old Grand Canyon, which is a mile-deep chasm carved out by the Colorado River. Flagstaff is a Ponderosa Pine–covered mountainous town, and a major gateway into the Grand Canyon. The infamous Saguaro National Park and forest is located just north to northwest of the Tucson area.
My favorite piano tune (by far) features a video filmed in the mid-1980’s in the Saguaro National Park–Saguaro, by David Lanz and Paul Speer. The video shows the majestic aura of the park on a beautiful day, including its enormous cacti and wildflowers, plus a bonus sunset.
The State of Arizona is located within and between the states of Utah to the north, Nevada to the north and especially the west, California to the west, the country of Mexico to the south, and New Mexico to the east. The only four-corners conjunction of states in the United States is located at the northeast corner of the state of Arizona, joining the additional states of New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada. Arizona is covered with lovely U.S. parks, and beautifully decorated terrain that includes cacti and plenty of desert flowers. The The most popular attraction in Arizona is the Grand Canyon, which goes on the be the nickname of the State of Arizona. This greatly appreciated attraction goes on to be the most popular tourist attraction to baby boomers, and the 3rd most popular tourist attraction in the U.S.–right behind the Statue of Liberty and Niagara Falls, both of which are in New York. After all, it is named The Grand Canyon State! As one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, it’s no surprise that this magnificent sight draws millions of visitors from around the world each year.
