Which Western State was WA:
The Beginning Years: Granted statehood in 1889, Washington was named in honor of George Washington; it is the only U.S. state named after any president. The region was part of Oregon Territory from 1848 to 1853, after which it was separated from Oregon and established as Washington Territory following the efforts at the Monticello Convention. On November 11, 1889, Washington became the 42nd state of the United States. The state became another state flourishing from gold seekers causing a boom due to the Klondike Gold Rush ion 1897.
More History: The state of Washington experienced some changes throughout the 20th century. These changes included migrations from various different states and also countries. Early in the 20th century, Washington workers began organizing unions to demand better pay and working conditions.
Climate of Washington: Washington’s climate consists of two separate climates. The eastern half of Washington has a semi-arid climate, while the western side of Washington as well as the coastal areas of the state have a cool oceanic climate.. Over the course of the year, the average summer highs are in the upper 80’s to mid 90’s, and in winter, average daytime temperatures can range from the upper 30’s to just above 0° F. In terms of geography, Central Washington is almost plains-like, giving way to rolling hills as you travel east.
The Great Location of Washington: Washington is a haven for nature and a sanctuary for wildlife. The great location of being the northwestern-most state in the continental U.S. makes it the number one state like reading the U.S. like a book, to match that of our number one President Washington. The state of Washington is north of Oregon and west of Idaho, directly east of the Pacific shores.

Memorable Washington Events: Here is a list of some events that happened in Washington:
- Beginning 1800s – Spain, Russia, England all claimed what is now Washington.
- 1811 – John Jacob Astor’s American Fur Company established a trading post at Fort George (Astoria). This was the first settlement in this area.
- 1846 – The present boundary between the United States and Canada was established.
- 1848 – The Oregon Territory was created. It included what is now Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and parts of Montana and Wyoming.
- 1853 – (March 2) Washington Territory was created from the northern part of Oregon Territory.
- 1859 – Oregon became a state. Washington Territory was enlarged to include the remaining Oregon territory not included in the new state.
- 1863 – The Idaho Territory was created from lands in eastern Washington Territory.
- 1888 – The transcontinental railroads reached Washington and brought a great influx of settlers.
- 1889 – (November 11) Washington became a state. Seattle was the largest city and the chief supply point for the gold rush to the Yukon territory in Alaska.
- 1930’s – The Great Depression closed many factories and mills. Many small farms were abandoned, and many families moved to cities.
- 1950’s–1960’s – The building of interstate highways made it easier for people to move long distances.
- August 19, 2015 – Three firefighters were killed battling a wildfire near Twisp. By August 24, the fire had grown to 256,657 acres (103,865 ha), surpassing the Carlton Complex fire of 2014 to become the largest wildfire complex in Washington state history.
