Featured Photo: Architecture, Part 4 – The Skies of Chicago, Illinois – Southwest View From John Hancock Observatory, Sears Tower & Marina Towers

Here is today’s featured photo presentation of yet another presentation of the bird’s eye view from John Hancock Observatory an hour or so before sunset in a view of the area southwest from the building, prominently into the area direct center to the Willis (Sears) Tower and the Marina Towers. You can see that this vintage photo is dated, as if you were to visit the 875 N. Michigan Avenue Observatory today, you would not be able to view the amount of the Willis Tower as you are able to view in the vintage shot. Also, viewing the Marina Towers from the 875 N. Michigan Avenue Observatory is impossible, too many buildings have been built and block its view. What a view this was! Photos like this make the City of Chicago a very luxuriously enchanting city–and among the great staples that have made the City of Chicago it’s very own, and a great place over the various years to visit on a relaxing summer afternoon! Date – July 1981.

Photo taken with a Nikon FE camera through a Nikon 26 mm lens, filter=Polarizer, Aperture=16 f/stop, shutter-speed 1/500 second, loaded with Konica Color Slide Film ISO (ASA) 100 (fine grain) processed with E-6 using Kodak Ektachrome Chemicals. Enlargement processed Type R color positive paper and R-3000 chemistry onto 3½x5″ glossy negative color image enlargement paper. Date – July 1981

Another fine aerial view photograph to follow very soon in the feature of Part 4 – The Skies of Chicago, Illinois. It is going to be quite a month, so join me ALL November and extended to all of December to bring back to the nice spirit of summertime!
