This devastating Category 3 hurricane struck the U.S. Gulf Coast on that same date in 2005, resulting in extensive destruction, especially in New Orleans, and is recognized as the most expensive hurricane in U.S. history..

Hurricane Katrina. Following the completion of the eyewall replacement cycle, Katrina escalated from a Category 3 hurricane, featuring winds of 115 mph, to a formidable Category 5 hurricane with maximum winds approaching 165 mph on August 28, as it commenced its northward trajectory towards Louisiana. . .ย Never forget!!!
