A Brief History on Soft Ice Cream:
Founded By: Tom Carvel was the first to invent what we now know as “soft serve ice cream”. He was also the first to bring the logic of “Buy one, get one free”, “BOGO” or “1+1” to the marketplace. Both Dairy Queen and the Carvel company claim to have developed the first soft-serve ice cream in the mid-1930’s, despite the reality of soft serve ice cream in the year 1938 by J.F. “Grandpa” McCullough and his son Alex McCullough with their soft serve formula near Moline, Illinois. A first sales experiment was on August 4, 1938, in Kankakee, Illinois, at the store of the McCullough’s friend, Sherb Noble.

Why: Soft, cold and sweet equals a very quenching and delicious combo on a hot day. Ice cream is highly delightful for anyone who would like the quenching ability of the cold treat that soft ice cream has.
Where & When: All around the world. It is not reserved only for the warmer regions, but worldwide, especially drier–including continental regions. Since the 1930’s. But the trend keeps going. . .
Celebrated: National Soft Ice Cream Day is celebrated every year on August 19th!
