The Beginning Years: It is believed that the early history of Michigan reveals that Paleo-Indians inhabited the region over 5,000 years ago. Artifacts associated with the Clovis culture have been discovered throughout Michigan. Transitioning from the Paleo-Indian period to the archaic period, caribou hunting took place on the Alpena-Amberley ridge, a time when lake levels were significantly lower. Michigan served as a significant location for numerous conflicts and acted as a launching point for assaults on other regions, including the settlements in Ohio and Kentucky. In 1622, the French explorer Etienne Brulé became the first European to explore the region of Michigan. The establishment of a permanent settlement occurred in 1668 when French missionary Father Jacques Marquette founded the initial settlement in Sault Ste. Marie.

More History: During the Revolutionary War, Michigan experienced minor conflicts. The region of Michigan was a point of contention among various Native American tribes. Statehood In 1787, the United States designated Michigan as part of the Northwest Territory. The British maintained control over Detroit and various forts around the Great Lakes until the year 1796. In 1805, Michigan was established as a separate territory. In January 1837, Michigan was admitted as the 26th state. The arrival of the British altered the dynamics between European settlers and Native Americans. Michigan State University was established as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan.
Climate of Michigan: Michigan has a climate is known for its humid continental climate, featuring warm summers and cold winters. The Great Lakes make it milder and wetter than other states in the area. Summers have temperatures in the mid-70’s to mid-80’s °F, while winters see lows in the 20’s to 30’s °F. The state receives 30 to 40 inches of precipitation annually, with heavy lake-effect snow in winter and about 30 thunderstorms a year. Michigan has an average of 170 sunny days per year, and approximately 47% of days being sunny.

The Great Location of Michigan: The state of Michigan spans 456 miles in length and 386 miles wide. Michigan is the only state to border so many Great Lakes: it borders four of the five Great Lakes. It is bordered by Ontario, Canada on the north and east, as well as Lake Superior and on the north of Upper Michigan, Lake Michigan in between Upper Michigan and Lower Michigan, Lake Huron on the northeast, the unofficial Great Lake: Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie on the east, Ohio and Indiana on the south of lower Michigan, and Wisconsin on the south of Upper Michigan.
