Today’s Featured Flower Photo of the Day: Large Saucer Magnolia Tree

Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let this year shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Large Saucer Magnolia (Tree).

A Large Saucer Magnolia Tree (Tulip Tree), or the Magnolia x soulangiana is created by crossing the lily magnolia and the Yulan magnolia, and can either be a large shrub with multiple stems or a small tree. The white flowers bloom with pink interiors, and typically appear early spring just before leaves appear on the tree. Some cultivar variations are available which offer some different flower colors, with a range from pinks to a deep purple. This is the most common Magnolia Tree grown in the U.S., with it’s great range of growth being all the way from mid-Florida into mid-Minnesota. The tree actually grows to the size of 20 to 25 feet. The Saucer Magnolia Tree grows best in the full sun to partial shade. This particular tree is an excellent example of a Magnolia on the very large and healthy side!

  1. Beautiful photo of a beautiful tree! I have to walk up a hill to get to the subway, and at the top of the hill there’s this gorgeous Saucer Magnolia. I look forward to it blooming every year.
