Today’s Featured Flower Photo of the Day: Pink Cherry Blossom Tree
Here is today’s featured photo flower presentation. To let this year shine bright, I am featuring fine photos of flowers, continuing to honor the brighter side of life again this year. Today’s Flower of the day is the Pink Cherry Blossom (Tree).
The Pink Cherry Blossom Tree (Sakura), or the Komatsu-otome (Cerasus spachiana cv. komatsu-otome [pink variety]) is a very popular tree even in of the Chicago, Illinois area, although the white variety is more popular here. It is a fruit bearing tree that blooms in mid-March in areas south of here, but later to our north. The tree originates in Taiwan and Okinawa, and grows to the size of 35 feet tall. The tree bears fruit any time in mid to late May to the south of Chicago, to later June north of here. Cherry continues for a four to six week period, barely every making it into August. The Cherry Tree requires about eight hours or more of sunlight daily, so they cannot be planted in the shadow of another tree, so shade is not of any value the Cherry Tree.
