Role and ancient times: Color has played a very large role in our world from the most ancient of times to most recent. People have experimented for centuries with several different pigments for the production of writing, drawing, and expression. One of the oldest known pigments in mankind is red ochre. These pigments were found in prehistoric cave paintings. The iron-rich soil and clays helped to create the pigment. Slightly more recently, back as far as 38,000 B.C., artists had used animal fat, burnt charcoal, and chalk–in order to create the components for different pigments of color. Along with red, other pigments of brown, yellow, black, and white were created.
More Recently: Since ancient times, people have come around to creating millions and billions of different colors. According to some scientists, humans are capable of seeing 10 million different colors. Some people hypothesize that there are far more colors than that amount, because of the different shades of light affecting color. One color expert believes there are actually 18 decillion colors, which is the number so high, that at 18 followed by 33 zeroes, it is not computable by my computer’s regular calculator.
Color and Emotional Well Being: Colors are not only beautiful, but certain colors touch humans with different emotions. Some of these are:
- Red: excitement, love, and energy.
- Orange: confidence, bravery, and success
- Yellow: creativity, happiness, and warmth
- Green: healing, freshness, and tranquility
- Blue: trust, peace, and loyalty
- Pink: compassion, sincerity, and sweetness
- Purple: royalty, ambitious, and luxurious
- Brown: trustworthy, dependable, and simple
- Black: formal, dramatic, and sophisticated
- White: clean, innocent, and honest
Celebrated: Every year internationally on March 21st, sometimes with the spelling colour.
Paint is how the reflected light shows it’s color, considering white light, but definitely compliments or is opposite with colored light. . .
Color Palette – Paint:
By mixing the primary colors of red, blue and yellow, we get the secondary colors. By mixing different amounts of all three colors together, we get the brown colors. By mixing any of the colors with white, we get tints of the colors. By mixing grey with the colors, we get different tones of the colors. By mixing any of the colors with black, we get shades of the colors. By mixing secondary colors in different proportions, we get different styles of tertiary (bright, non-primary or non-secondary) colors and quaternary (sepia) colors. White or light colors reflect the maximum amount of radiation. These colors are bright to indicate that they are reflecting large proportions of light, and are cooler in temperature because of the high amount of radiance. Black or dark colors absorb the maximum amount of radiation. These colors are dark to indicate that they are absorbing large proportions of light–and since they are not reflecting as much light, they appear to be dark in color. Dark colors are warmer in temperature because of the low amount of radiance and high amount of radiant absorption. Black, including cars, are the hottest of all colors, so much so, that in a case study a black car’s cabin had measured 130° , while a white car’s interior only measured at 113°. Plus car color is a fashion statement: The car color has always easily made a great fondness and attachment, even in the hey days of classic cars.
Light has different properties, different palette and is the source of color. . .
Color in Light:
Color in light is different than reflective surfaces, referred to as colors of paint. Light is the source of color. The primary colors of light are slightly different, with red, blue and green being primary. Yellow, a primary color in paint, is a secondary color in light. Also the secondary colors are different. Magenta, cyan and yellow are the three secondary colors. Secondary colors in light were discovered when projectors with the three primary colors were aimed at a projection screen almost aligned yet off a few degrees to see overlaps on the screen. At the point where the color red and blue overlap, we see magenta light. At the point where the color red and green overlap, we see yellow light. At the point where the color green and blue overlap, we see cyan light. Now the most miraculous discovery is that when all three colored lights overlap, the presence of all three colors produces white light, because of the presence of light in all three categories of primary color. Darkness, or the cause of black is the result from no light source.
Hexadecimal Color Code:
Hexadecimal color codes were invented in the hey days of computers to code all the different combinations available. There are three types: the original three digit system (#fff is white) was the first color rendition system available, in which the first digit represents the color red, the second is green and the third is blue–hence the term “RGB”. This combination of available colors was only at 4,096, because it used the cubed formula of 163. The highly most popular used system in both html and computer language these days is the six digit system (#ffffff is white). The first two digits represents the tint/tone/shade of the color red, the second set is green and the third set is blue–or #RRGGBB. This system uses the formula 166 as the formula to figure how many available colors there are, or 16,777,216 colors.The third and final system is not directly recognized in HTML without using a plugin to render its use, the eight digit system: #ffffffff is still white, but the final two characters represent alpha shades, so all sorts of controls including transparency and other factors are manipulatable, and is the system used in the background of manufacturing your .png format photos. With this manipulation the hexadecimal code with eight digits leads to the formula of 168 which renders 4,294,967,296 which is in the billions.
Color TV and Digital Devices:
Now, RGB is used in television, projection and HDMI processing, especially in the digital age for many purposes involving color. In the original days of making an analog color television (Channel 2-6 + 7-13 + UHF 14-69 (83 in the old days), the National Television System Committee NTSC-2 system was invented a system that was possible to be used whereby original black and white sets would not become obsolete, and implementation of color sets would compliment the industry, after having many compatibility problems with other systems. The system was used by eliminating the green color due to bandwidth issues and the system produced the green through a raster binary countdown red versus blue with yellow on both channels and a checksum style counter to render the green and not have issues with rolling screens with the black and white sets. There was a drop in quality of the image on the original B&W sets, but not enough to consider the universality of implementing the new system of color.

Spectrum of Light:
Photography uses color on an ongoing basis. Even in this digital world, the digital camera is rendering all sorts of colors in order to product a photograph. In the days of the darkroom, color films were invented to bring all the color and glory to you eyes. Systems for color negative and color slide films were produced with many development systems, including the 60’s style C-22 process which brought color film to the middle class, then the C-41 process was invented with the advent of the 110 cartridge model cameras. E-6 slide film and Kodachrome ( a proprietary item, not self developable) film were invented. These days, you can just about take as many photos as you want with digital cameras, including those on you phone. These days, very few people actually do not have a camera.
Color and Printing:
Printing cartridges these days have components in the printer to render the color using the CMYK color system. This system uses the secondary colors as it’s colors, instead of primary colors, and a key base color, most often times black ink–in order to render the color printing. The biggest difference is that unlike painting and using primary colors, this system uses color subtraction in order to render the proper rendering of color on the print job. How this happens is that the color wheels when all three colors are placed over each other render dark hues closer to black, as opposed to white when the primary colors are placed over each other. The reason that the key color must be dark is because the whole system is based on color subtraction due to the fact that it must compensate for most paper being white. Sometimes the key color is substituted, especially for commercial purposes and large print jobs for industrial reasons. The cartridges sometimes need alignment and replacement as the inks run dry. The world of color makes or breaks designers of clothing and more. The world of color has showrooms, people interested in purchasing clothing or jewelry trying them on to make sure that not only the color is fine but the fashions in general. Even the world of hair care and makeup are open to a lot of color choice. Don’t leave Fido or Kitty out: The world of animals from dogs, cats, horses and more are all loaded with good old fashioned color!
Arts & Crafts: Arts and crafts have developed throughout man’s existence. From ancient paintings, to modern art of all types, be it sculptures, paintings or even mod art, color is all a part of this great and astonishing world.
Astronomy & Color Balance: The Sun is a yellow star. It appears on Earth as really bright white because of the intensity. Daylight film was made to reflect the temperature of the sun and the bright blue skies that represent a balance of white to render the photos as “white”. There is a white intensity control on many viewers including television, to cast the “pink” hue that is rendered from the white not being balanced. will be out soon.
Nature: The world of nature would not be the same without color. From a great display flowers to trees with great color, the color of nature is a very important and soothing affect to the human soul.
Present & Future: Hopefully we can all celebrate color more and more every year. From a fireworks display, gaming, to sky is the limit! The event of experiencing color has its heritage, and hopeful that heritage can go on and on for years and years. . .
