It is the day to honor the hero that made our freedom from the British Empire possible! True Freedom, that made our country what it is! Don’t let anyone tell you that we are not free! Washington, his following, his armies and all people connected to the signing of the Declaration of Independence practiced the principles of Freedom! In order to honor those that keep our flag flying high, there is a lot of responsibility that goes along with keeping freedom ringing in each and every American’s life! Just like in those revolutionary days, every American is so special–every generation–for each second, minute and hour. Keep the flag for what it stands for. . .Be proud to be an American! Thank you Mr. President Washington. The legacy lives on and on. . .
A Brief History:
President Washinton’s Birthday/Origination: President Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Virginia. This is according to the now used Gregorian calendar, which Britain and all its colonies adopted in 1752. Really the calendar change was included objections to using the year zero (“0”), so the then used Julian calendar had him born in 1731. The holiday began informally on February 22, 1800–one year after Washington had died. Then in 1879, President Rutherford B. Hayes signed a law adding Washington’s birthday on to the country’s four banking holidays. The Federal holidays in those days only applied legally to federal employees in Washington D.C.
President Washington’s Pre-Presidential Career: As a young man, Washington worked as a surveyor. George Washington owned 6,500 acres at Mount Vernon, and a sixteen-sided barn is was built on his plantation in the year 1775. He then fought in the French and Indian War during the years 1754-1763. During the American Revolution, he was a leader in the colonial forces to march victory over the British. He then became a national hero.
The Revolutionary War: In September 1774, George Washington was elected as a delegate to the First Continental Congress. On April 19, 1775, Shots were fired at Lexington and Concord, and that is how the beginning of the Revolutionary War started. General George Washington led the American army to victory during the Revolutionary War, even though he lost more battles than he won. Washington employed the winning strategy, including victories at the Battle of Trenton in 1776 and Yorktown in 1781.
George Washington’s Family: George Washington’s Family included his Father Augustine Washington (1694-1743), his mother Half-Brothers Butler Washington (1716-1716), Lawrence Washington (1718-1752), and Augustine Washington Jr. (1720-1762). He also had his Half-Sister Jane Washington (1722-1734). He married his Wife Martha Washington (1731-1802) and had no biological children.
President Washington’s Other Merits: In 1787, he was elected president of the convention that wrote the U.S. Constitution.
Changing the Holiday To the 3rd Monday in February: The Uniform Monday Holiday Act passed January 1, 1971, officially changed the holiday marking Washington’s birthday to the third Monday in February. That same act officially changed the holidays three then current Federal holidays in the United States–Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, and Labor Day, and made Columbus Day a federal holiday, also on a Monday. Veterans Day was moved from November 11 to the fourth Monday in October, but in 1978 it was returned to November 11.
President Washington’s One of Four Presidents on Mount Rushmore: A sculpture was carved at Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota with a roughly 60-ft.-high granite face depicting four U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Completed in 1941 under the direction of Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln, but folklore states that there were plans for more faces.
A Few Facts:

- Washington signed into law the first Presidential Cabinet.
- Washington signed into law the first copyright law.
- President Washington issued the first Thanksgiving Proclamation.
- President Washington personally led troops to stopping the Whiskey Rebellion.
- Like many great leaders, Washington was an excellent judge of character. This strength proved invaluable to winning the war.
- The Washington Monument is an obelisk within the National Mall off on Fifteenth Street in Washington, D.C. It was built to commemorate George Washington because he was the once commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and also the first President of the United States.
- The sight of Washington appears on every single dollar bill and every quarter.

Every day ALL Americans have the asset of having more freedom than any other country in the world. The freedoms, while challenged all the time are also protected by the signing of the Declaration of Independence. President Washington and Washington’s Birthday are so important to us all!. With the unity of all people having a Higher Power, there is hope. . .
The Future:
President Washington just knew knew how to position his armies and win the war that established the foundation of the United States. Without this solid foundation, our country is doomed to exist with the freedoms the flag stand for. Don’t take anything for granted. “The Declaration of Independence” is the one of the sacred documents that President Washington never took for granted. We will NEVER, ever forget the freedom for which the flag and the Statue of Liberty stands for!
